Karolinska University Hospital, with the support of the Demand Acceleration framework, welcomes companies to contribute to the vision for the future of advanced paediatric care at home. During spring 2024, the hospital is exploring how this care can be developed and what the business sector has to offer.
Through an innovative programme for dialogue between companies and Karolinska University Hospital – the Solution Enabler Program – opportunities to develop care are being explored in a pilot during spring 2024. The focus is on SABH, hospital-connected advanced paediatric care at home.
SABH is a form of care that offers an alternative to inpatient care at Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital, where seriously ill children who would otherwise be admitted to hospital can be cared for at home. Children aged 0–18 with various diagnoses and care needs are referred from the different inpatient wards of Stockholm’s children’s hospitals. SABH’s catchment area covers the whole of Region Stockholm and is available around the clock, every day of the year.
Demand Acceleration was created within DigitalWell Arena and is a framework for integrating the principles of public procurement into innovation processes. Lina Svensberg leads the work and is pleased about the collaboration with Karolinska University Hospital, which she believes contributes to developing the methodology.
– It is very rewarding to see how they have taken the core principles of the Demand Acceleration methodology and developed the work into their own. A development built on innovation logic where the ground is prepared for procurement, but where it is not clear in advance what – or even whether – anything will be procured, says Lina Svensberg.
She also believes the work contributes to further shifting the emphasis towards innovation in procurement processes.
– It is clear that those interested in the Demand Acceleration methodology are actors at the absolute forefront, which very much applies to Karolinska when it comes to innovation.
“We are learning an incredible amount every day in this first round. Learning protocols have been established! The Solution Enabler Program is being developed as we go, with hands-on support from DigitalWell Arena. We hope this can become a valuable tool for healthcare organisations in their work at the intersection of governance, strategy, and innovation,” says Andreas Hager, Innovation Manager, Karolinska University Hospital.
